VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN Portable CPAP Cleaner Reviews

VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN CPAP Cleaner and Sanitiser

It has been a few months since VirtuOx launched their VirtuCLEAN portable CPAP cleaner. In a market largely dominated by SaniClean, I thought it may be worthwhile looking at some alternatives. Below we will look at the specifications of the VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN (a mouthful isn’t it) as well as what people are saying about it.

Introduction to the VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN Portable CPAP Cleaner

Released earlier this year (2017) – the VirtuCLEAN is a compact, battery-powered, portable Ozone CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer. Like the SoClean 2 CPAP cleaner, it uses Ozone to clean and disinfect CPAP equipment.

This cleaner does not come cheap, and like the SoClean 2 is very much a niche item to make cleaning your CPAP machine that little bit easier. At the time of writing, the VirtuCLEAN was on for (Check latest price clicking here). For comparison, the SoClean 2 is usually $299, so there is little cost saving in opting for the VirtuClean over the SoClean 2.

The VirtuCLEAN has a very small profile, weighing in at half a pound (230 grams) and about the size of a digital camera. So, it is considerably smaller and lighter than the equivalent SoCLean 2 Go which weighs 2.2 pounds.

The battery has a long life – 10 hours stated by VirtuOx. Therefore you should be able to get two weeks usage between charges.

Using the VirtuCLEAN is as simple as plugging it into the end of your CPAP hose, turning the VirtuCLEAN on, and walking away. It will automatically turn off after 30 minutes. Compared to the SoClean range, it requires no maintenance or filters replacement.

What Reviews Say about the VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN

Some selected quotes from others follow:

  • ‘VirtuCLEAN is portable, so patients can take it when travelling. It does not require maintenance like other devices, which VirtuOx states makes it a fit not only for homecare, but also for hospitals, emergency rooms, and ambulatory care centres’
  • ‘VirtuCLEAN eliminates the need for patients to clean their PAP equipment each day. A chore that most patients rarely comply with as directed by their physicians. But not anymore with VirtuCLEAN.’
  • ‘SoClean has some competition.’

As the reviews say – the VirtuCLEAN CPAP cleaner is worth a try if you’re looking for a portable, convenient Ozone CPAP cleaning device. It will help keep your CPAP equipment clean. However, there are some limitations to the VirtuCLEAN. If you are looking for something which will give a more thorough clean – consider the SoClean 2 bedside unit.

What are the limitations?

The VirtuCLEAN attaches to the end of the CPAP hose. This is convenient and allows for its tiny profile. It also means that users of the VirtuCLEAN compromise on how thorough their CPAP mask or machine is cleaned.
If you decide to attach the VirtuCLEAN to the CPAP machine end of the hose, the inside of the CPAP machine will not be cleaned. Attach it to the mask end, and the CPAP mask will not be cleaned in that cycle.

VirtuCLEAN and Hose

Advantage SoClean 2. The SoClean devices enclose the mask allowing a thorough clean of the inner and outer surfaces of the mask and mask cushion. This simply means that if you choose the VirtuCLEAN device, you need to regularly wash your mask.

The VirtuCLEAN is for CPAP users where portability and convenience of a compact and rechargeable cleaner is paramount. You can check out Amazon for the price of the VirtuOx VirtuCLEAN device here. For anyone else who is considering an Ozone-based CPAP cleaner, we still think the SoClean 2 bedside unit is the best. If you have used this product, I’d be incredibly interested to hear about your experience. Good? Bad? Comment below>

That’s about it.
